Empowering Young Minds: Executive Women Network’s Inspiring Visit to the African Science Academy

On Friday February 3rd 2025, in pursuance of the Executive Women Network’s (EWN) Mission 3, which aims to inspire and empower girls and young women, EWN representatives were invited to the African Science Academy (ASA) to share their experiences and insights with talented young girls from across Africa. Joyce Agyare, Member of the Executive Committee of EWN, and Janet Sunkwa-Mills, Chairperson of the Executive Committee of EWN, had the privilege of addressing 50 students from 13 African countries. Moderated by the Academy’s Head Teacher, Gifty Ghansah, the session began with Madam Janet Sunkwa-Mills sharing her remarkable journey, from humble beginnings to her current position. Her inspiring story and motivational lessons left a lasting impact on the young audience.

Joyce Agyare followed suit, offering insights into her life experiences, challenges, and triumphs. Her words of wisdom sparked a sense of determination and enthusiasm among the girls. The interactive session encouraged the young ladies to ask thought-provoking questions, demonstrating their curiosity and eagerness to learn. Six exceptional students were also given the opportunity to pitch their ideas, showcasing their creativity and innovative thinking with regards to what they learned at the session.

As a token of appreciation, Smartline Publishers Limited presented books for the outstanding students and donated additional books to the library. Prior to the session, the EWN team was warmly welcomed by the school team, including Head Teacher Gifty Ghansah and Administrator Jennifer Mensah. The visit ended with a comprehensive tour of the school, which showcased its excellent facilities and learning environment.

About the African Science Academy (ASA)

The African Science Academy (ASA) is a prestigious institution dedicated to providing high-quality education to talented young girls from across Africa. With a focus on STEM education, ASA aims to empower girls to become leaders in their respective fields and drive positive change in their communities. By partnering with organizations like EWN, ASA seeks to provide its students with valuable mentorship and networking opportunities.

This event marked the beginning of a fruitful collaboration between EWN and the African Gifted Foundation. Over the next year, EWN members will mentor the students, providing guidance and support to help them unlock their full potential. We are also exploring opportunities to engage more with ASA through our ELLEVATE program, which aims to provide a platform for girls to connect, learn, and grow. We look forward to this partnership and its positive impact on the lives of these future leaders.
